This £800,000 project at The Crofton School comprises a new single storey Resource Provision centre serving pupils with Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and associated staff.

The new building is a single storey block approximately rectangular on plan and measuring approximately 20m x 18m.  The centre includes teaching areas, a group room, sensory learning areas and associated administration areas.

The corridor leading to the Centre and sensory rooms consists of a lightweight steel canopy structure.

The new build is a masonry structure with proprietary timber beams in the Teaching Area and traditional timber joists in other areas supporting sedum green roof.

Though single storey, significant challenges in the form of providing large open plan areas without structural columns or walls and corner windows without corner columns were resolved to the satisfaction of all parties.

Sedum green roof and foundations on vibrated stone column improved ground were provided as sustainable options.

The building has been completed to a high standard, to the front of the existing school and  will facilitate the school in the years to come.
