This major redevelopment project involves the extensive remodelling of the existing site at Freemen’s Park Campus and a prestigious new build teaching facility on the Abbey Park Campus including state of the art recording studios and extension to The Foundry. The project is valued at £31 million.

The Abbey Park development is an in-situ concrete Frame with Flat slab. This option was chosen over a steel frame to naturally increase the thermal mass to keep the building cool in the summer and the store heat in winter. The sustainability of the building was a key design consideration and it is one of the first buildings in Leicester to incorporate a wind turbine in the design.

The building houses recording and performing arts studios and sound control was a special design factor. The foundations are piled due to deep fill on the site and gas protection measures were introduced. A major redesign of the foundations was required at construction stage to cater for the some high voltage cables which were incorrectly located on the record drawings. A quick response enabled the project to proceed with minimum delay.
