Royal National College for the Blind
New sports facilities at the Royal National College for the Blind in Hereford include an indoor sports hall, complimentary medicine facilities, hydrotherapy pool, gym and associated changing rooms.
Curtins were novated to contractor Morgan Ashurst for this £12 million project which also includes a separate 3 storey residential accommodation block for 56 students. The college is the home of the National Blind Football Team and hope to host the upcoming World Championships and play a significant part in the 2012 Olympic games.
The indoor sports hall is designed to host indoor football matches when the pitch is configured for the specific needs of the game, with retractable seating to enable the hall to be used for exams.
Overall, the facility has been designed for users who are blind or have partial sight, and the new student accommodation was rated by CSCI as one of the best examples of designing for disabled users in the country.
