Skelmersdale College
The new £25 million Vocational College at Skelmersdale forms an integral part of the overall master plan of the town centre, acting as a regeneration catalyst in the form of a civic and educational landmark development. As well as providing extensive learning facilities for beauty, music, acting and dance the building also houses a learning resource centre, lecture theatres and a publically access theatre and bistro.
The form of the building has been set to encourage the main street of the town centre master plan to extend into the realm of the college, with the intention for the college to become a 21st century town hall. A community hub for the town centre.
With sustainable criteria a key element of the design, the development also provides improvements to the Tawd Valley.
The building achieved a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating.
