University of Liverpool Heating & Infrastructure

HIP 3 HIP 1 HIP 4

This project provides a new energy centre for the University of Liverpool campus. The centre is located alongside an existing listed building with an old brick chimney and is to include:

  • The new energy centre is used to house boiler plant and specialist mechanical equipment to provide heat to all the buildings on the campus.
  • A two storey steelwork structure with long span pitched roofs.
  • The structure is built over the top of an existing railway tunnel requiring careful assessment of loading on to the Victorian structure.
  • A new 45m high chimney stack.
  • New pressure pipework has as an enabling contract and runs the full length of the campus: approximately 1 km. This pipework has to traverse adoptable highways and the main Network Rail Liverpool to London line. Currently this is being constructed whilst keeping all building and hard standing areas in use.
  • Structural repairs to the retained listed building
