Beverley Community Hospital
The new £18 million Community Hospital is to be constructed on a greenfield site on the eastern extents of Beverley replacing the current town centre Westwood site.
The site will provide full 30 bedded ward community hospital including outpatients, x ray and ultrasound, minor injuries, therapies, mental health, medical school and social services facilities with room for further expansion.
The new facility will be primarily single storey with some two storey elements to the main concourse areas, incorporating the latest technology in sustainable features such as green roof systems, external timber cladding and ground source heating to respect the greenfield site location.
External works also will encompass the sustainable issues using ‘SuDs’ style pavings and drainage techniques together with a large water feature to comply with the necessary storm water attenuation requirements imposed the Environment Agency and Internal Drainage Board.
With the majority of the site located within an area considered to be flood plain by the Environment Agency great attention has been made to assessing flood risk and mitigating the identified hazards, and in particular meeting the requirements of a Sequential Test. Building floor and external works levels will be modelled to address the identified risks in order to meet with the approval of the Environment Agency allowing Planning Permission to be granted.
The East Riding of Yorkshire NHS Trust are committed to sustainability issues and are therefore aiming to achieve BREEAM ‘ Excellent’ rating for the new building.
