Lea Interchange
First London launched their first Hydrogen Bus from Lea Interchange in December 2010 and eight zero-polluting buses which emit only water will create the first hydrogen bus fleet in the UK and the largest in Europe.
Lea Interchange Bus Depot houses a specially designed maintenance facility which is the UK’s largest hydrogen refuelling site.
Curtins provided civil and structural engineering services for the existing site to extend and fully refurbish the existing transport maintenance building.
Extensive negotiation was necessary with both the Environment Agency and Thames Water to agree and finalise a drainage strategy for the site, as prior to occupation all surface water flows drained to the Thames Foul Sewer network.
