Royal Mail Network Hub Relocation
This £6 million project involves the redevelopment of an existing brownfield site to facilitate the relocation of the Royal Mail East London Network Hub. The project has incorporated the partial demolition of an existing industrial unit to create a new cross docking facility.
The nature of the works required that significant strengthening works were undertaken to the existing steel frame. The existing ground levels were also increased to accommodate the installation of new dock levellers. Poor ground conditions are present on site and innovative design solutions were required to minimise capital costs whilst ensuring the new buildings complied with Royal Mail specification.
The existing site has been the subject of a CPO associated with the 2012 Olympics and this presented significant programming challenges to ensure the works could be completed in sufficient time to allow relocation prior to the CPO being implemented.
