Southgate Hotel
A new £4 million, 42 bedrooms 3 storey wing extension and foyer refurbishment to the existing 4 star hotel in Exeter.
The scheme included ground works within highly sensitive archaeological remains adjacent to the historic city wall and also the new bedroom wing is situated directly over highly sensitive BT optical fibres which transmit direct signals between Goonhilly Satellite Station and the rest of the UK.
The piled foundations and substructure were designed to bridge over the duct to ensure no loadings from the new structure would be transferred to the underground duct.
