Appointed by Telford & Wrekin Council, the full design team is lead by MACE to design the new state of the art civic office building under the OGC Buying Solutions. The original feasibility study was to identify the preferred site to use on the Southwater development based on the requirements of the report on the new ways of working.

The site is the first to be developed on the development and a bench mark on quality is required together with BREEAM excellence.

The structural solution for the building is still to be confirmed but currently the preferred solution is a concrete frame with a 300mm thick concrete flat slab on piled foundations.

To allow the heat sync properties of the concrete to be used an exposed soffit is required and the downstand free flat slab solution was considered the best to achieve this.

The piled solution is preferred currently due to the depth of the bearing strata and the proposed use of a cooling labyrinth under the building.

The construction of the new building will be in its entirety over the current lake and the lake is to be drained and recreated in front of the new building. The lake will be used to provide rainwater attenuation on the new buildings constructed adjacent to the lake. The construction of the lake is part of this contract.
