A new 2-storey 2,520sqm school delivered as part of the PSBP2 Mid-Value North East & Yorkshire batch.

The school is a steel framed rectangular building (approx. 17m x 72m) housing two classrooms for each year group, staff facilities, small group rooms, library space and a double height assembly hall space. It also provides pupils with a brand-new sports hall, an additional studio with a sprung dance floor and a food, science and Design & Technology room with state-of-the-art technologies.

The existing school was demolished following the construction of the proposed scheme and landscaped to provide new facilities and play areas for the pupils. The existing school remained in operation during the construction of the new structure.

    Key points:

    • Existing school site.
    • Significant site sloping on the south face of the building’s footprint required the design and review of serval options to provide the most cost-effective solution.
    • Due to the site ground profile, the ground floor slab is suspended preventing a direct surcharge occurring on the top of the slope.
