The project comprised the design of aluminium cassette over-cladding for the 132 private residential flats contained within three identical 10 storey towers and their contiguous 3 storey podium buildings. Constructed in the mid-1960s these concrete framed structures required a facelift to meet the demands of the contemporary housing market.
The new over-cladding comprises powder coated aluminium panels hooked on to extruded aluminium rails, which in turn are supported by aluminium brackets fixed directly to the concrete structure with stainless steel resin anchors. Mineral wool cavity insulation was installed behind the cladding and the original single glazed windows were replaced with double glazed units, which have superior thermal and sound transmission properties.
Key Points:
- Improved appearance to achieve more contemporary look.
- Improved thermal and sound transmission properties of building envelope.
- Low maintenance façade made from recyclable aluminium.
