The new endoscopy unit at York Teaching Hospital is being constructed within the existing hospital building, as part of the ongoing Procure 21+ Programme of Work. An existing single ward block, currently housing the Remedial Therapies Services Building, is undergoing major refurbishment and extension to provide new endoscopy and interventional suites.

The development will add a combination of 1 and 2 storeys to the existing building. The ground floor areas are being refurbished to create new modern laboratory space, whilst an additional two storeys are being added onto the top of the existing ward block to create a new endoscopy suite and associated plant spaces. A bridge link will also be provided to connect the existing endoscopy rooms with the new building. We have undertaken non-intrusive investigations to determine the nature of the existing structure.

This has included Ferroscan portable scanning of the existing concrete structure, which allows us to determine the reinforcement content of the concrete in a non intrusive way.
