This Category B prison facility, providing a 140 cell facility, is surrounded by 5.2m high precast concrete perimeter walls. The only interruption to the secure perimeter is the two-storey Gatehouse building. Within the secure perimeter there are numerous buildings including a workshop, five wing blocks, a central hub area, kitchens, educational and recreational buildings.
Structural steelwork was the preferred construction material for the majority of buildings, although the wing blocks were designed with precast reinforced concrete, delivered to site as flat packs assembled on site using insitu concrete stitches.
