LETeC will become a centre of excellence for high-speed rail planning, design, construction and manufacturing.
The first phase of the development includes the world class Infrastructure Test Facility (ITF) where full scale geotechnical models can be stress tested with simulated high speed Raleigh Waves, designed to replicate the dynamic forces associated with the passing of high-speed trains.
The facility will also house the new Institute for High-Speed Rail and System Integration
(IHSRSI), providing a research and innovation hub focused on a systems approach for both conventional and high-speed rail engineering.
It will be home to the UK’s first Centre for Infrastructure Materials (CIM), equipped with both full meteorological monitoring and environmental control.
The Systems Integration and Information Centre (SIIC) is to be Passivhaus.
