• High Sustainable Development

Curtins have been involved in buildings which have pioneered sutainable technologies and have worked on buildings which have achieved the highest BREEAM ratings. Our work on Powergen and Cannon UK HQ office buildings some 20 years ago defined the use of low energy natural ventilation strategies which are common place in modern building design. We have worked on many buildings which have achieved BREEAM Excellent ratings and are working towards the delivery of the first Outstanding rated buildings.

However, our involvement in sustainable development isn’t simply about achieving credits but also about innovation. We were involved in the first building in the UK to use rainwater harvesting, and have also used Hempcrete on a residential development with sustainability at is core.

    Need a Green Expert?

There’s plenty we can do to help with your sustainable development and here’s a few ideas to inspire you.

    Brownfield Site?

We have a dedicated Environmental Business Unit that provides information to clients about unlocking contaminated brownfield sites for redevelopment. They can also undertake due diligence surveys including organising and undertaking site investigation works and providing all necessary information to accompany planning applications to discharge contamination issues. They can also provide independent environmental advice and assist with determining remediation strategies and producing validation reports. We can develop Materials Management Plans when sites require recycling of soils for re-use on site and have an in-house expert who can submit declaration to the Environment Agency without the need for a Waste Management Licence or a Waste Disposal License.

    Rainwater Harvesting

In order to discharge the Code for Sustainable Homes Sur 1 mandatory requirements for schemes achieving Level 3 or above on sites where infiltration is not possible, we have designed several housing schemes to successfully include rainwater harvesting. Our skills have enabled us to create co-ordinated design solutions with other members of the design team. We are also able to review situations where it may be possible to omit rainwater harvesting through careful consideration of the existing and proposed site development.
