- Championing Futures through STEPS Engineers Week with Engineers Ireland
The 2nd March marks the start of Engineers Ireland STEPS Engineers Week, a national celebration that encourages young people across Ireland to explore the world of engineering. As part of the programme of activities, Patricia Ferreras Gonzalez, Structural Engineer in our Dublin office, will be visiting St Joseph’s National School to spark curiosity and inspire future innovators.
Patricia says, “It makes me incredibly proud to see Curtins alongside other leading consulting engineering companies and to be recognised as strong supporters of STEM. It’s a fantastic opportunity to be involved in this inspiring initiative."
Patricia’s passion for outreach has not gone unnoticed. Last year, she was nominated for the Irish Volunteer Awards in the Children and Youth category - highlighting her continued contributions to shaping young talent and future careers in engineering and STEM.
Over the past several years, Patricia has been deeply involved in STEM engagement with Engineers Ireland. She has visited more than 13 schools across the country, bringing engineering to life through hands-on activities, real-world examples, and career insight.
“I was honoured to be invited to attend Engineering the Future: Innovation in STEM Education last year and again this March. It is a real privilege to be part of this event, invited by Engineers Ireland, and to represent Curtins in such an important discussion on the state of Irish STEM education and the skills gaps in the labour market.”
Curtins is proud to be able to support Engineers Week and continue to provide meaningful insight and opportunity in STEM careers, with Patricia at the helm of this brilliant initiative in Ireland.
Championing Inclusion Through STEM
Patricia also serves as a STEM Ambassador at Maynooth University through the STEM Passport for Inclusion programme, where she mentors Transition Year students from underserved communities. Through interactive learning and creative problem solving, she helps young people explore innovation, understand the real impact of engineering and gain insight into life as an engineer at Curtins.
Her involvement reflects Curtins’ commitment to shaping Ireland’s built environment, with contributions to key national projects that positively impact the communities we serve.
This transformative initiative aims to address unequal access to STEM pathways by providing students from working-class communities with both a STEM qualification and an industry mentor support that can be genuinely instrumental.
