Project Overview
We've been providing civil, structural and transport planning engineering services for the £100m Carlisle Citadels scheme. The project involves the redevelopment of the city centre site, designed to revitalise Carlisle, attract more people of working age and contribute to improving productivity through the creation of a consolidated campus for the University of Cumbria.
Our input enabled the renovation and alterations to the existing structures across the site, including some of the most iconic and historic Grade II Listed buildings in Carlisle, and the construction of new structures that adjoin the existing.
As an industry leader in the investigation and repair of existing buildings, Curtins brought a wealth of survey experience to the project team to enable the architectural proposals to be realised.
Comprehensive surveying and the detailing of necessary repair work was undertaken of the Grade II listed Hospital Wing and the 1920s Woolworths Building; with the Woolworths building being dilapidated in certain areas and heavily altered and strengthened since original construction.
