Cleve Hill Solar Park is the UK's largest solar power station, located on the Graveney marshes near Faversham in Kent.
Our teams carried out a phase II ground investigation for this 200MW Battery Energy Storage System project, overcoming significant ecological and site access challenges to support foundation and earthworks design.
Energy - Scotland
Field Energy employed Curtins to design and undertake a phase II ground investigation based on desk based information provided by the client.
The proposed development included a 200MW Battery Energy Storage System with associated infrastructure (cable routes, transformer, road infrastructure, SUDS etc).
Exploratory holes were drilled using a dynamic sampling rotary rig in order to assess and constrain ground conditions and to inform both the foundation design and the earthworks.
The Site was heavily overgrown, ecological constraints (including a peat bog and badger sets) limited access to certain areas and a well managed programme of works had to be designed in order to deliver the project without incurring severe delays and cost to the project.
Long term groundwater monitoring is currently being undertaken in order to provide further data for earthworks design and to assist in an ecology team establishing the potential presence of a Ground Water Dependant Terrestrial Ecosystem.
Fyrish is 1 of 7 BESS ground investigations successfully undertaken by Curtins over the past year.
The site investigation faced significant access restrictions due to dense overgrowth, ecological sensitivities like a peat bog and badger setts, and the need to avoid environmental disruption.
Curtins designed a carefully managed programme of works to navigate ecological constraints and deliver the investigation efficiently, avoiding delays and additional costs.
