Sustainability was our talking point during our Civils Insight session this week, exploring how we are driving this approach not only with our design and delivery ethos but how we are leading the way and supporting across the industry in education and awareness raising.

The session was opened by Symetri Europe who spoke about the context of globalisation, urbanisation and sustainability and how their Co-Innovation Lab is a formula to co-research and co-create to enhance innovation and resolve societies pressing issues.

Symetri’s subject matter expert Stephanie Rindosh, also spoke about Net Zero Objectives and how green infrastructure can support the embedding of a key focus on an environmental culture and how technology and infrastructure such as BIM alongside mature processes can enhance societal benefits.

Jake Busby joined us from a Civil Engineering perspective to cover Sustainable Drainage and how these solutions are being realised on Curtins’ projects, as well as how clients are working with us to realise greener and more sustainable outcomes across their projects.

Our Sustainability Coordinator, Niamh McCloskey led the session focusing on Carbon Calculating, the need for conscious thought and option appraisal around sustainable design and what we can do as Engineers to make a difference to the world that we live in.
