Refurbishment of nine existing operating theatres and associated areas to create improved hospital accommodation. Curtins were appointed for this project following the success of a previous project of similar works on Q Floor.

The project included refurbishment of existing operating theatres into new modern HTM compliant operating theatres with associated additional air handling units (AHUs) and M&E routing.

The new theatre layouts meant some existing structures had to be removed. We assessed the existing structure and produced options to allow the removal of the columns whilst considering buildability, and whilst minimising disruption to the existing hospital areas.

    Key Points:

    • Multi-phased project to be completed over 3+ years to minimise disruption to the existing hospital.
    • Innovative steelwork grillage solution to enable proposed air handling units to be installed on an existing building roof with minimal remedial works.
    • Liaison with the client and design team to share archive information and agree how incomplete information would be dealt with, whilst minimising potential delays.
