    A Grade I listed structure comprised of 1,400 tonnes of early 20th Century steel, soaring 242ft above an industrial landscape. Built in 1906, the Newport Transporter Bridge is being preserved so that future generations can enjoy this iconic structure.

    The visitor experience will also be enhanced by the creation of an on-site Visitor Centre with cafe, toilets, shop and exhibition gallery.

    Curtins are developing the conservation of the bridge in a holistic manner, optimising the scheme and prioritising repair and replacement of critical elements where essential to the structural performance.

    Key points:

    • Development of an intervention matrix to establish the condition and priority of all bridge elements, allowing more critical elements to be addressed in a suitable and cost-effective manner.
    • Design and appraisal of specific bespoke repair details to enable LBC application and approval.
    • Close liaison with design team to develop the successful Stage 2 HLF application and tender information.
