This project has created a stunning and accessible entrance to the Bessemer Building to complement the internal and external refurbishments. The entrance was designed to be in keeping with the renewed Bessemer facade, for instance with pink glass as an architectural feature.
The installation of a platform lift adjacent to the entry stairway provides a DDA compliant point of access. A suite of fully AV equipped seminar rooms and administrative offices were also created for use by faculty and ICT staff on this project.
The 1940s building had a concrete frame with waffle slab and was upgraded to provide heavily serviced BioMedical and BioNano facilities. The previous façade of the building was in conflict with the requirements of Building Regulations and included an outdated internal floor plate width. Our R.A.P.I.D approach provided an impressive looking building, without compromising the proposed use. Enhanced thermal performance of the façade combined with the additional space allowed modern and efficient space planning.
