This project will assist the client in achieving their vision for an Orthopaedic Centre of Excellence within South East London, providing a full range of elective orthopaedic procedures for patients, involving all orthopaedic surgeons within the region, across eight floors.
As a hub of excellence for education and training, it will enable an innovative approach to the development of a comprehensive research portfolio which in turn could lead to improved outcomes for patients as well as the ability of the network to attract substantial research funding.
The new build will be located on the Guy’s Hospital Site off Great Maze Pond Road, with the new building linked back to Tower Wing of the main hospital building. This will facilitate the fire strategy and patient pathways between the new building and existing hospital. Minor local alterations will be required to existing buildings where physical connections are made.
The proposed site presents complex challenges in terms of vehicle access and spatial constraints meaning design development is key from the start.
We are providing design advice in relation to disabled parking provision and delivery and servicing strategy to ensure the site operates efficiently.
