Demolition of an existing building and construction of a new research and teaching
facility containing laboratories with sensitive experimentation equipment.
The frame has been designed for future flexibility allowing for migration, replacement and movement / re-configuration of the laboratory spaces throughout the building life.
The ground floor had to perform well dynamically with high imposed floor loads. Due to the former site, this required a ground improved solution to achieve a ground bearing floor slab. The RC frame was designed to achieve VC-A in lab areas under footfall
excitation.
