£5m Buchan House Malmaison, Edinburgh
Client: S Harrison Developments / Malmaison
Role: Principal Designer
Malmaison at St Andrew Square in Edinburgh’s City Centre involves the sensitive conversion of a Grade A listed building into a new boutique hotel, comprising 72 guestrooms with a series of public spaces including a restaurant, bar and coffee lounge and private dining facilities.
The building occupies two Grade A listed classic Georgian town houses, the oldest in Edinburgh’s New Town originally constructed in 1775 and fronting onto St Andrew Square. The design creates new public spaces at street level, with bedroom accommodation provided across the upper floors and two sensitive new-build extensions to the rear of the existing building providing additional front of house space and key operational links.
