Seven Years, The Story So Far…

Over 7 years ago, Curtins made the decision to offer Transport Planning as one of their core specialisms, alongside established services that included Civils & Structures, Environmental and Infrastructure.

Building upon the success of a company that was established by Bill Curtin in 1960, I was delighted to be given the opportunity in 2010 to lead this new aspect of the business and take on the exciting role.

Since 2010 our Transport Planning service has grown organically, offering the service locally from most of our 14 offices, working across the whole of the UK and Ireland. Over this same period, the company has doubled in size employing 400 people and over the last two years, opened three new offices in Cambridge, Dublin and Glasgow.

The Transport Planning team has a wealth of knowledge and expertise, with each of our local office leaders having significant experience within their geographic region. However, we remain flexible and work collectively to provide the right level of service to our clients. This knowledge and expertise is important to us and provides a solid foundation for the service to grow and develop, which can be seen later in the Billboard.

It would be a fair to say that the sectors we work in and clients we work with have never been so diverse in my career. Most of our work relates to development in some way. This ranges from site allocations, through to feasibility, planning, construction and beyond on both small and regionally significant projects. In particular, our bespoke Foursite pre-planning and due diligence service has been very successful in advising clients during the site acquisition and planning stages of a project.

We also work on an interesting mix of private and public sector projects, reflecting in many ways the diversity and scale of projects Curtins is involved in.

We adopt both a commercial and considered approach to our involvement in projects. We understand the planning and development business and the role that Transport Planning has in the overall success of a project. This applies not only to working closely with the design team to achieve a successful decision at planning, but to ensure that any transport or highway solution meets the needs of the end user.

Looking forward, we will continue to grow our presence in our established regions and continue to expand our Transport Planning services into other offices; widening our service spread to serve our clients.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone in Curtins for their support over the last 7 years. I would also like to thank all our clients and friends within the industry, who we continue to assist and collaborate with to achieve our collective goals.

As always, I remain excited and proud about working with the Transport Planning team and our complementary specialisms, as we continue to provide a high-level consultancy service to both our clients and the construction industry as a whole.

“Transport Planning has been a valuable addition to Curtins, due to the hard work and dedication from Tony and the team. It has complimented and enhanced our service offer and continues to strengthen our position as a leader and specialist in the design of the built environment. As we celebrate its success within the company, we look forward to the continued growth of the team.” – Rob Melling, CEO
