Early Career Pathways

Pathways to becoming part of the Compliance Team

Route 1: Training & Qualifications

Some people begin by studying Health & Safety, Environmental/ Sustainability or Quality related subjects.

These can be undertaken during further or higher education or once you start working.

Examples iof relevant training include, but are not limited to:

  • IOSH or NEBOSH Health & Safety / Environmental Certificates and Diplomas

  • ISO 9001:2015 Quality Auditor training

  • ISO 45001:2018 (Occupational Health & Safety) Auditor training

  • ISO 14001:2026 (Environmental) Auditor training

These qualifications help you understand the fundamental requirements, standards and management systems that keep people and workplaces safe and compliant.

Route 2: Learning Through Work (Experience Based Route)

Others start in completely different roles and develop an appetite for compliance during existing job role responsibilities. This is a common route - and often provides us with a person who can champion compliance, understands the nature of our business and adds value.

People often move into compliance from technical and non-technical disciplines such as:

  • Technical delivery, e.g. engineering, transport planning, technician

  • Business function - operations, administration, or process‑based roles

  • H&S Officer or Coordinator, IMS Administrator

This is an opportunity for anyone who believes in setting and maintaining high standards, management and workflow systems, supporting others, and continually improving how things are done. You learn by doing and will develop by working with other like-minded people.
