- How to Deliver Lower Embodied Carbon Solutions
Invited guests from some of the most notable architects, QS / PM, contractors and M&E practices in the South East joined us at our Cambridge office at the end of February to join the discussion on how to deliver lower embodied carbon targets.
Led by Stefano Strazzullo, Director in Cambridge, the event brought together experts to demonstrate how carbon reduction, MMC and intelligent design align to deliver lower embodied carbon solutions.
Sustainability Coordinator, Niamh McCloskey shared the key steps towards carbon reduction, illustrating how to analyse embodied carbon impact, and introducing key data trends from our Carbon Database.
Board Director Dan Evans took the reins to demonstrate the ‘Use Less – Less Waste’ methodology through MMC techniques, and Alexander Lorincz, Senior Technician in Cambridge and PhD student at Cambridge University discussed how this low carbon approach informs engineering design.
Some interesting questions were raised in relation to how design teams can embrace MMC and standardisation to reduce waste and embodied carbon, whilst enjoying the freedom of design. We also discussed how we can work collaboratively to achieve the targets set in client specifications, such as the NHS's new NHS Net Zero Building Standard. It's great to come together to bring focus on Carbon as a Currency in our designs.
If you're interested in how Curtins is leading on embodied carbon reduction, you can see our commitments here.
And of course, we'd be delighted to speak to your team about our approach in more detail so please get in touch.
