Build Clever: How to Achieve Lower Embodied Carbon Solutions
12th June, 9.00am - 11.00am

We invite you to join Curtins and Capital&Centric at Manchester’s vibrant HOME Theatre to learn how to deliver lower embodied carbon projects, whilst harnessing the UKs extraordinary existing buildings.

Curtins have been measuring the embodied carbon impact of our projects since 2021 to boldly inform design decisions and set targets for reduction. With examples under our belt of exceptional new builds that have achieved LETI industry targets, our carbon database demonstrates one thing clearly: there is no structural solution that delivers lower embodied carbon than one that already exists.

With invited guests from Capital&Centric, this event will illustrate the steps that can be taken to achieve carbon reduction and highlight how retrofitting our existing buildings not only delivers economic carbon outcomes, but conserves our heritage, protects core skills and provides the architectural and design variety that makes our jobs as engineers, designers and developers filled with exciting challenges and dynamism.

Capital&Centric take the lead in the North West as developers renowned for transforming the mundane and creating beautifully striking retrofits. They will join the event as key speakers and share their approach to reusing existing buildings, including the iconic Littlewoods building in Liverpool and a MSCP in Newcastle – proving that clever design and collaboration can achieve the unimaginable.

Lessons learnt, carbon data and project examples will be shared through the session, before wrapping up with questions from the floor to our three speakers: Jon Moister (Board Director, Curtins), Niamh McCloskey (Sustainability Manager, Curtins) and Martin Crews (Development Director, Capital&Centric).

Breakfast will be served from 9am in the ground floor bistro at HOME, before we join the presentations at 9.30am.
