Award wins, Place Party, future talent development and charity fundraising. Here's a look at what's been happening across Curtins over the past month.

Supporting people flourish

Civils Summer Programme 2026

That's a wrap for our Civils Summer Programme. Over six weeks, students from across the UK explored the many facets of civil engineering through expert-led sessions, real-world projects and industry insights, building both technical knowledge and professional confidence along the way. You can learn about what they got up to here.

Curtins Graduate Academy

September marked a special milestone for our Year 4 Curtins Academy cohort as they completed their four-year Academy journey. The programme has been running since 2014, which means this group was the 9th cohort to graduate from the Academy and take their next steps towards professional chartership.

To celebrate, the group came together at for a Pizza night in Liverpool to reflect on their experiences, achievements and the friendships formed along the way.

Congratulations to everyone involved.

Supporting MND

We're delighted to share that colleagues raised just under £500 for the MND Association Curtins Chosen chartiy for 2026, through the Getogether memorabilia auction.

Meanwhile, members of our Scotland team also volunteered with MND Scotland, helping to prepare Christmas cards and support the charity's ongoing fundraising efforts.

HMP Glasgow

Last month, we hosted a breakfast event focused on the nationally significant HMP Glasgow project.

More than 100 attendees heard from representatives of the Scottish Prison Service, Scottish Futures Trust, Kier Construction and Curtins about the delivery of the new £1bn facility, the challenges involved and the innovations helping to shape the project.

Read and watch the key takeaways here.

Roundtables

We're always grateful for opportunities to take part in industry roundtables, where we can exchange ideas, challenge perspectives and share insights with peers across the built environment.

Earlier this month, our Design Director, Ian Dorman, joined Insider Media to discuss transforming construction through advanced manufacturing.

Meanwhile, the Centre for Construction Best Practice (CCBP) brought together industry and academic advisory groups, alongside key stakeholders, for a roundtable focused on shaping its next research programme around data inconsistency in the built environment. Representing Curtins was Sophie Foulkes, our Digital Transformation Coordinator, reflecting our commitment as the CCBP's first professional services Corporate Partner.

Women's Networking at The Ivy Towerbridge

While engineers, architects, contractors and consultants work together every day, opportunities to step away from projects and build new connections can be rare.

Our London team recently hosted their first Women’s Networking Breakfast at The Ivy Tower Bridge, bringing together professionals from across the industry to share experiences, gain fresh perspectives and foster meaningful new relationships.

Events like these help strengthen collaboration, support professional growth and encourage conversations that drive positive change across the built environment.

Rise Collective: Invisible Work

At a recent Rise Collective session, Helene John and Vicky Karavatsi explored the concept of invisible work and the often-unseen contributions that help teams and businesses succeed.

From mentoring and knowledge sharing to relationship-building and championing inclusion, the discussion highlighted the value of the work that often goes unnoticed but has a lasting impact.

Place Party 2026

Our team celebrated Place Party 2026 at an iconic new venue, the AO Arena.

As proud sponsors of this year's event, it was fantastic to see the industry come together for another successful evening of networking, collaboration and celebration. We're also delighted to be continuing our support of Place North West events through 2027, including the launch of the new Greater Manchester RESI event.

With plenty still to come before the festive season, we’re looking forward to making the most of a busy and rewarding end to the year.

Getogether 2026: Celebrating the People Behind Curtins

For over 40 years, our Getogether has been a reminder that while we deliver engineering excellence, it's our people who make Curtins what it is. This year, colleagues from all 13 of our offices came together at Manchester's Victoria Warehouse for a day of fairground-themed challenges. The evening concluded with dinner and our annual awards, recognising those who embody our values every day. Because great businesses are built on great people.
