Project Overview
Orbiston Community Hub in Scotland is a contemporary, all-in-one facility that unites primary schools, early years provision, and community services within a flexible and inclusive setting.
The hub has become a central community asset, supporting education, wellbeing, and social connection. By integrating services and prioritising inclusive, thoughtful design, it empowers children and young people while strengthening community ties—creating a lasting positive impact for families across Orbiston
The Challenge
The Orbiston community required a modern, inclusive facility that could bring together education, early years support, and community services under one roof. The challenge was to create a welcoming, flexible environment that supports children and young people at all stages of development, while also meeting the wider needs of families and the local community. Additionally, there was a need to replace outdated community facilities and prioritise health and wellbeing through both indoor and outdoor spaces.
Our Solution
Orbiston Community Hub delivers a 21st-century, integrated facility that combines:
Sacred Heart Primary School
Lawmuir Primary School
A Family Learning Centre (0–5 years)
A new Community Centre, replacing the Joe McKay Centre
The design focuses on creating an inclusive, adaptable learning environment with state-of-the-art facilities. A strong emphasis was placed on fostering a “home-from-home” atmosphere, encouraging curiosity, collaboration, and engagement. Outdoor areas were carefully designed to enhance health and wellbeing, providing high-quality leisure and recreational spaces for all members of the community.
