We’re delighted to share some truly inspiring news from our heritage team. Suzanne Johnsen, Senior Engineer and long‑standing champion of traditional building conservation at Curtins, has been awarded a place on the prestigious SPAB (Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings) Scholarship.

This scholarship is one of the most respected and immersive programmes in the field, offering unparalleled exposure to traditional craft, conservation philosophy, and hands‑on learning. It’s a remarkable achievement - and one that reflects Suzanne’s deep commitment to understanding, protecting, and celebrating historic structures.

Throughout her career at Curtins, Suzanne has been a passionate advocate for the thoughtful stewardship of the built environment. Her expertise in traditional materials, craftsmanship, and sensitive repair has shaped many of our heritage projects, helping ensure that historic buildings continue to tell their stories for generations to come.

The SPAB Scholarship will allow Suzanne to learn directly from leading craftspeople, conservation specialists, and master builders across the UK. This experience will further strengthen her expertise and support her pathway toward professional accreditation within the heritage sector.

We couldn’t be prouder of Suzanne for securing a place on this highly regarded programme. We look forward to welcoming her back later in the year - bringing new insights, refined skills, and fresh inspiration to share with our team and clients.
